TMC’s Mimicry Episode Draws BJP Condemnation: PM Modi Enters the Fray
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar over the mimicry incident involving Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kalyan Banerjee. Banerjee had mimicked the Vice President during an opposition protest in Parliament. In a social media post, Dhankhar mentioned that PM Modi conveyed his distress about the disrespectful behavior of some MPs in the sacred Parliament complex.
Dhankhar assured the Prime Minister that such actions wouldn’t deter him from upholding constitutional principles. The controversy unfolded when Banerjee, in a protest against MPs’ suspension, mimicked Dhankhar, drawing criticism from the ruling BJP. Rahul Gandhi was seen recording the performance. Dhankhar, expressing personal hurt, stated in Rajya Sabha that his farmer and Jat backgrounds were targeted.
The BJP demanded an apology from the opposition, condemning the video and asserting that the INDIA bloc insulted individuals with humble backgrounds holding constitutional positions. The issue underscores tensions between political parties, highlighting the need for decorum in parliamentary proceedings.
